A few years back I was asked to act as a referee for Marcus. This is part of what I wrote: Regarding my own experience of making music (improvising) with Marcus, I have noted that right from the beginning a sensitivity is brought to bear on the sound sources. Beginnings are challenging; I like the way he tests the ground: rooting around for sounds, prospecting for sounds, sound-divining. Searching rather than making. Then, imperceptibly we experience the birth pangs of a melody, to be moulded and kneaded.
